our story

Strength Community started with one person, one goal and a gap that needed to be filled. In 2019, while working in disability and mental health support, our founder Michael “Moose” Shannos was supporting a young man who wanted to start training at a gym. Finding the right support to help him do that wasn’t easy — so Moose decided to do something about it.Already passionate about strength training and the positive impact exercise can have on both physical and mental wellbeing, Moose completed his fitness qualifications and began building a service that combined exercise, disability support and genuine community. What started with one participant has grown into Strength Community supporting people across Newcastle and Taree to build strength, confidence, independence and meaningful connections.Today, we’re still driven by the same belief that started it all:Strength is built through community, connection and support. And our mission goes beyond building strong bodies and minds — we want to help build strong lives.
